26 Feb Black History Month: Erykah Badu
Erykah Badu is the poster girl for funky non conformist everywhere. The unapologetic neo-soul songstress has an individual style that is out of this world. Her career began in 1994 as an opening act for singer D’Angelo. The raspy, sultry voice caught the attention of a record label executive, which landed her a record deal. Her music has coined her the first lady of Neo Soul and her style has become so widely recognized that she was the face of high-end brands like Tom Ford and Givenchy.

Fashion and music aren’t Badu’s only passions; her concern for the youth and their life choices made her take things into her own hands. She currently has a charity named Beautiful Love Incorporated Non Profit Development (B.L.I.N.D 501c3) that is based out of her hometown, Dallas. The charity’s mission is to provide community-driven development for inner city youth through music, dance, visual arts and theater. She has also opened a community center in Dallas and received the key to the city because of her hard work and dedication to Dallas, Texas.
Happy Birthday Erica Abi Wright, aka Erykah Badu!
